Mount Vernon Christian School, 820 West Blackburn Road, Mount Vernon, WA (just south
of the fairgrounds)
Directions:
From I-5 take exit 225 and drive west on Anderson Road. Turn right onto
Old Highway 99 South. Turn left at the next stoplight (Blackburn Road). The school
will be on the left side of Blackburn about a quarter mile past the stoplight.
Entry Fees:
Pre-registered with shirt: $25 *
Pre-registered without shirt: $15 *
Day of race registration (without shirt): $20
Race shirt: $10 (a limited number of shirts may be available for sale on race day)
Youth ages 12 & under, without shirt: Free
Adults 70 and older, without shirt: Free
* Mail-in entries must be postmarked by 11/8/2009. Pre-registrations
will continue to be accepted until 5 pm on Friday, 11/13/2009 in person at Skagit Running Company.
Shirts may not be available for entries received after 11/8/2009.

Day of race registration from 8 am - 9:30 am
Packet Pick-up:
Pre-registered participants may pick up their packets in advance at the Skagit
Running Company (702 S. First St., Mount Vernon) on Thursday 11/12/09 or Friday 11/13/09 during business hours
(10 am - 6 pm).
Course:
The 10K is a flat loop on farming roads south of
downtown Mount Vernon with a short out and back section on
Dike Road. The 2 mile course is
a flat out and back course. Both the 10K course and the 2 Mile course have been certified (USATF Certification Codes
WA 09057 MW and WA 09056 MW). Both races will start at 10 am at the school. The courses are not closed to vehicle traffic, but both courses have been designed to avoid crossing any dangerous intersections.
One aid station will be located near the 3 mile mark on the
10K course assuming that the wind doesn't blow it away!

The courses will be open for 2 hours.
Weather:
Almost any type of weather is possible at this time of year in the
valley. There is usually a strong headwind on Dike Road in late fall, but also
be prepared for rain and cold temperatures.
Race Results:
Results will be posted near the finish line as soon as they are available.
Complete results will be posted online at
Skagit Runners website and printed in Northwest Runner magazine. Results will also be available
at Skagit Running Company.
Age Divisions:
For awards purposes, the age divisions are 6 and under, 7-8, 9-11, 12-14,
15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over. The age divisions will
be the same for both the 10K and the 2 Mile.
Awards:
Awards will be
given to the overall male and female winners in both races. The top 3 finishers
in each age division will receive ribbons. The oldest and youngest finisher in the
10K will each receive a "Spring Chicken" trophy. The family with the most finishers
in either race will receive the "Fat Turkey" prize.
Beat the Turkey:
New for 2009 - The "turkey" will start
5 minutes after the gun in the 10K. Finish in front of the turkey and win a special
award!
Random Prizes:
We will give out turkeys, pumpkin pies and other random prizes to
participants at the awards ceremony.
Food and Refreshments:
Pumpkin pie, brownies and refreshments will be available after the race
for race participants.
